Band History
Two Virginia Blue Eyed Soul Legends, Steve Bassett and "Fat" Ammon Tharp, along with their smoking six-piece group will keep you on your feet with classic soul, rhythm and blues and beach. This is a band you simply don't want to miss at this year's Party in the Park!

For years the two had bumped into each other at Beach Music Festivals up and down the East Coast. In fact, Bassett notes, Tharp was "one of his main inspirations" for performing beach music with such soul and enthusiasm. It wasn't until the summer of 2002 that legendary beach music man Ammon Tharp (Fat Ammon Band, Bill Deal and the Rhondels) and Virginia's own Steve Bassett ("Sweet Virginia Breeze") decided to get together and jam.

A gig on Brown's Island in Richmond, VA over the summer of 2002 jump started the dynamic duo's new act, The Mystic Soul Bubbas, which got the crowd out of their seats and onto their feet. With a rock solid repertoire of over 100 classic beach, soul and R&B favorites, this piano/organ and drummer duo, back by a hard-driving soul band, is a proven crowd pleaser.
